Buffer overflow in the slc_add_reply function in various BSD-based Telnet clients, when handling LINEMODE suboptions, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a reply with a large number of Set Local Character (SLC) commands.

    @dyn___ @nrathaus was a worse bug recently that got most telnet filtered at isp level: https://www.labs.greynoise.io/grimoire/2026-02-10-telnet-falls-silent/ not sure if AI found it ... if it did it missed the second bug from 2005 that's still alive in the gnu telnet client :> https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2005-0469
