CVE-2010-0001 | When arithmetic points outside the box Imagine a picker sent to a shelf number that does not exist. An integer underflow in gzip's LZW handling could similarly produce an invalid array index on 64-bit systems. A crafted compressed archive could crash the application and possibly allow arbitrary code execution. The issue affected gzip before 1.4, as used in ncompress and potentially other software. The lesson: numbers from untrusted files need bounds checks before they become memory addresses.
