CVE-2017-0001 | A drawing tool with too much power Imagine a guest using a building's drawing desk to reach restricted rooms. A flaw in Windows GDI, the Graphics Device Interface, could let a local user gain higher privileges through a crafted application. This was a local elevation-of-privilege issue. The record does not say that simply viewing any image remotely compromises Windows. The starting access and attack path matter. The lesson: graphics components are part of the security boundary. Patch the OS and limit unnecessary local execution.

GDI is Windows' Graphics Device Interface. This was a local elevation-of-privilege vulnerability, not a claim that viewing any image remotely compromises Windows. Lesson: patch the OS and limit unnecessary local execution. Official record: https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/blob/main/cves/2017/0xxx/CVE-2017-0001.json
