Babel-Security hit a milestone today. I pointed it at cloudhead/node-static, a Node.js static file server with a known, still-unfixed path traversal bug: CVE-2023-26111. The tool flagged the exact problem: the startsWith() root check in servePath(), which lets a request escape the document root into any sibling directory sharing the root's prefix (e.g. /var/www → /var/www-public). It found the right file, explained the mechanism, identified an unauthenticated remote attacker, rated it High, and proposed a correct fix. A few additional findings from this scan are being verified and reported privately to the maintainer. #AppSec #SecurityTesting #AI #NodeJS
