🚨 #ALERT — GStreamer RTP Audio Heap Overflow: Potential Remote Code Execution
October 15, 2026 (ZDI); upstream advisory October 8
PRODUCT: GStreamer gst-plugins-base / gst-plugins-good
CVE: CVE-2026-111183
SEVERITY: CRITICAL — ZDI CVSS 9.8
AFFECTED: Versions <1.28.8; check distributor backports.
IMPACT: Crafted RTSP streams or attacker-controlled SDP negotiation can trigger heap out-of-bounds writes in RTP L8/L16/L24 audio depayloaders, causing crashes, memory corruption or potential code execution.
EXPOSURE: Apps accepting untrusted RTSP/RTP audio through affected GStreamer elements; not all installations are vulnerable.
EXPLOITATION STATUS: Upstream-confirmed flaw. No verified attacks in the wild or working public RCE chain established.
Forensic triage: Audit RTSP/SDP connections, GStreamer process crashes and unexpected subprocesses. No campaign-specific IOCs published.
URGENT ACTION: Upgrade both gst-plugins-base and gst-plugins-good to 1.28.8 or vendor-fixed builds; restrict untrusted streaming peers until patched.
