🚨 #ALERT — WAVLINK Router WireGuard Management Handler Has Public Command-Injection PoC
November 2, 2026
PRODUCT: WAVLINK WN536AX6-A | CVE-2026-120280 | CRITICAL (VulDB CNA CVSS 3.1: 10.0).
AFFECTED: Firmware V260507. Other revisions remain unverified. No vendor-confirmed fixed firmware was identified.
IMPACT: Researcher analysis identifies unsanitized group_id/group_name input in the /protocol.csp WireGuard group handler reaching a shell command through system().
Exploitation requires management-endpoint access and a session token. The researcher reports that FirstLogin=1 permits passwordless token acquisition in the tested factory-default configuration. This condition must not be assumed across all deployments.
Successful exploitation could execute OS commands with router-service privileges. Root-level impact is researcher-reported, not independently reproduced here.
EXPLOITATION STATUS: Public proof-of-concept request and official CNA disclosure. No confirmed malicious in-the-wild exploitation.
TRIAGE: Identify exact hardware revisions and firmware. Examine management-interface exposure, unexpected WireGuard group changes and requests involving wireguard_cli_group. Router logging may be insufficient to establish historical exploitation.
URGENT ACTION: Block management access from the internet and untrusted LAN/Wi-Fi segments using network-level controls. Restrict administration to trusted hosts. If reliable isolation is unavailable, disconnect or replace affected equipment pending verified remediation. Preserve relevant evidence and assess credentials if compromise is suspected. A factory reset is not a vulnerability fix.
