NVD description

An authentication bypass vulnerability in the Check Point SmartConsole login process allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to obtain an application login token and use it to authenticate with full administrative privileges. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to modify security policies and security configurations. Remote exploitation requires internet access to the Management Server IP address and a configuration that does not restrict Trusted Clients. Check Point is aware that this vulnerability is being exploited and has affected a very small number of customers.

⚠️ Check Point SmartConsole 0-Day Exploited to Gain Full Administrator Access - PoC Released Source: https://cybersecuritynews.com/check-point-zero-day-poc-released/ A critical authentication bypass in SmartConsole that was actively exploited as a zero-day before patches were available. Tracked as CVE-2026-16232, the flaw affects Security Management Server and Multi-Domain Security Management Server (MDS) and can give an unauthenticated attacker full administrator access through the SmartConsole management interface. Successful abuse depends on network access to the management plane and a Trusted Clients setup that does not tightly restrict GUI clients, a condition Rapid7 observed as default in testing. #cybersecuritynews

THE FIREWALL WAS THE WAY IN. NOT AROUND IT. THROUGH IT. CVE-2026-16232, SEVERITY 9.1, EXPLOITED RIGHT NOW. An authentication bypass in Check Point's SmartConsole, the console admins use to manage the firewall itself. Confirmed exploited in the wild. Why this one stings more than a normal RCE: - The attacker sends a request and gets back a valid application login token. No password, no login. - That token logs them into the management server as a full administrator. - That server sits at the top of the trust chain. From there they rewrite security policy across every managed gateway, change admin permissions, touch VPN config, and switch off the logging that would have caught them. - Only systems with the management server exposed to the internet with no IP restriction were hit. The exposure was the prerequisite, not the bug. The uncomfortable part: this was found during Check Point's own routine internal review, and the follow-up analysis showed attackers were already using it. The defenders found it second. The takeaway worth saving: Your security tools are attack surface too. The console that manages the firewall needs the same lockdown as the firewall: never exposed raw to the internet, always behind an IP allowlist. A management plane reachable by anyone is a single request away from full control. CISA gave federal agencies until July 25 to patch. Three days. If your management server is internet-facing, the fix is step one and restricting trusted clients to known IPs is the step that actually closes the door. When a defensive tool becomes the entry point, where should the line sit: is exposing a management console ever acceptable, or is internet-facing admin always the real vulnerability?

    Post summary

The post confirms that CVE-2026-16232, an authentication bypass in Check Point's SmartConsole, is currently being exploited in the wild and allows attackers full admin control over exposed management servers, urging immediate patching and IP restriction.

A static credential vulnerability in Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center is being actively exploited and Cisco assigned it a High severity rating even though the CVSS score says Medium. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-20316, allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to log in using a low-privileged account and access sensitive data. Cisco's rationale for the upgraded rating is that the flaw can be chained with other FMC vulnerabilities to escalate privileges. Security researcher Jimi Sebree of Horizon3 discovered and reported the flaw. Cisco became aware of active exploitation in July 2026. The company has released hot fixes but no workarounds exist, patching is the only option. CISA added the vulnerability to its KEV catalog on July 29, with a federal deadline of August 1. Cisco also published an indicator of compromise: a log entry showing /var/tmp/license.tmp in the output of cat /var/log/messages | grep license. If present, it suggests exploitation may have occurred. Arista, Check Point, now Cisco. Three major vendors, three active zero-day disclosures in a week. The attack surface isn't shrinking. For security leaders, this is the third major vendor zero-day disclosure in a week following Check Point's CVE-2026-16232 and Arista's VeloCloud vulnerability. The pattern of active exploitation across management interfaces is clear. These are the systems that control security policy and access, and they're being targeted directly. If you're running Cisco FMC on-premises, how quickly can you apply the hot fix and validate that the IOC doesn't appear in your logs?

    Post summary

Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (CVE‑2026‑20316) is actively exploited in the wild; Cisco provided hot‑fixes, CISA listed it as a KEV, and an IOC is supplied for detection.

CVE-2026-16232: a public proof of concept now exists for an actively exploited Check Point management bypass. Check Point patched the flaw on July 22, 2026 and disclosed that it had already been exploited as a zero-day against a handful of customers. CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog the same day, with a July 25 deadline. On July 28, Rapid7 published a root cause analysis and a proof-of-concept script. Whatever cushion unpatched management servers still had is gone. Technical findings - The flaw is an authentication bypass in the SmartConsole login process affecting Security Management Server and Multi-Domain Management, scored 9.3 by Check Point and 9.1 by CISA. - An unauthenticated attacker with network access can obtain an application login token, authenticate through SmartConsole with full administrator privileges, and change security policy and configuration. - Rapid7 attributes the root cause to a broken trust boundary. The server accepted a caller-supplied Secure Internal Communication distinguished name as the identity of a remote application instead of binding that identity to the authenticated peer certificate. The patch derives identity from the certificate and rejects a mismatch or an empty identity. - Exploitation requires network access to the Management Server and a Trusted Clients configuration that does not restrict GUI clients. Check Point reports that observed victims had Management exposed directly to the internet without IP restrictions. A Security Management Server sits above every gateway it pushes policy to, so administrative access there reaches policy, administrator permissions, VPN configuration and logging. Gateways stay online and look healthy while enforcing what an unauthorized administrator wrote. Recommended actions - Apply the Jumbo Hotfix on an emergency basis: R81.20 Take 158, R82 Take 118, R82.10 Take 36 or later. Older release families have no specified fix, and Smart-1 Cloud is protected per the vendor. - Where patching has to wait, restrict Trusted Clients to known addresses or subnets, place management access behind a firewall, and verify that implied rules for control connections are enabled. - Do not treat patching as evidence of a clean environment. Where Management has been internet-facing, review administrator, SmartConsole, API and application token activity. Rapid7 notes that a successful login leaves an audit record identifying an application token as the authentication method. The six vendor-published exploitation addresses are a starting point, not a complete list. Check Point edge and management products have produced three separate in-the-wild issues since 2024, including a Remote Access VPN bypass exploited by Qilin operators in June 2026. The management plane deserves Tier 0 handling, on the same footing as a domain controller. #ThreatIntelligence #CyberSecurity #CheckPoint #VulnerabilityManagement #CTI

    Post summary

CVE‑2026‑16232 is a high‑scoring authentication bypass that was actively exploited as a zero‑day; a public PoC script exists, the vendor has issued a patch, and Rapid7 identified the root cause.
