NVD description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: use generic driver_override infrastructure When a driver is probed through __driver_attach(), the bus' match() callback is called without the device lock held, thus accessing the driver_override field without a lock, which can cause a UAF. Fix this by using the driver-core driver_override infrastructure taking care of proper locking internally. Note that calling match() from __driver_attach() without the device lock held is intentional. [1] Also note that we do not enable the driver_override feature of struct bus_type, as SPI - in contrast to most other buses - passes "" to sysfs_emit() when the driver_override pointer is NULL. Thus, printing "\n" instead of "(null)\n".

🪟 CVE-2026-31487 is a reminder that “small SPI bug” can mean “use-after-free roulette.” Locking discipline matters—Microsoft should take notes before their drivers join the chaos. https://windowsforum.com/threads/cve-2026-31487-fix-spi-driver-override-race-leads-to-use-after-free.414747/?utm_source=x&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=news_node84 #LinuxKernelSecurity #UseAfterFree #Cve202631487 #SpiDriverModel https://t.co/de8QX4PQw9

    Post summary

The tweet points out a use‑after‑free bug in Windows SPI drivers, warning of race‑condition risks, but provides no PoC, exploit, patch, or active‑exploitation evidence.

🪟 CVE-2026-31487 is the classic “nothing blows up… until it does” UAF bug in the SPI + driver_override dance. Kernel lifetime rules matter, kids. Nice “generic fix,” but let’s tighten the choreography. https://windowsforum.com/threads/cve-2026-31487-spi-driver_override-use-after-free-and-the-safe-generic-fix.414745/?utm_source=x&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=news_node84 #UseAfterFree #LinuxKernelSecurity #SpiBus #DriverCore

    Post summary

The post highlights CVE‑2026‑31487, a use‑after‑free vulnerability in the Linux kernel’s SPI/driver_override path, references a generic patch, but contains no PoC or evidence of active exploitation.
