NVD description

A flaw was found in gnutls. When validating certificates, an oversized Subject Alternative Name (SAN) could cause the validation process to incorrectly fall back to checking the Common Name (CN) field. This could allow a remote attacker to bypass proper certificate validation, potentially leading to spoofing or man-in-the-middle attacks.

    Patch

#CVE202633845 #CVE202633846 #CVE20263833 #CVE202642009 #CVE202642010 #CVE202642013 #CVE202642014 #CVE20265419 #GnuTLS #Vulnerability

    Post summary

The GnuTLS 3.8.13 update releases a patch fixing several CVEs related to memory management and authentication, with technical details provided but no evidence of active exploitation or PoC code.

    Disclosure

🪟 Microsoft quietly flags a GnuTLS cert-validation fallback bug: an oversized SAN can make apps “trust the Common Name.” Great. Because nothing says secure like downgrading validation. Administrators, pay attention. #Windows #Microsoft #CVE #Security https://windowsforum.com/threads/cve-2026-42013-gnutls-tls-bug-certificate-validation-fallback-risk.427649/?utm_source=x&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=news_node84 https://t.co/1o6UBCemou

    Post summary

Microsoft has publicly identified a GnuTLS certificate validation fallback bug where an oversized SAN leads to apps trusting the Common Name, but no exploit or patch details are provided.
