🚨 CRITICAL PRE-AUTH RCE — SOY CMS HIT BY 9.8 DESERIALIZATION VULNERABILITY CVE-2026-78032 requires no authentication and no user interaction — and can allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the web server. CyberSignal Priority: 🔴 VERY HIGH CVE-2026-78032 · CVSS 9.8 📅 August 28, 2026 🏷️ Web Security · RCE · Deserialization · CMS · Vulnerability 🛠️ Product: SOY CMS Japan Vulnerability Notes has disclosed a critical vulnerability affecting SOY CMS. The security profile is severe: 🌐 NETWORK ATTACK ↓ 🔓 NO PRIVILEGES REQUIRED ↓ 👤 NO USER INTERACTION ↓ 💥 ARBITRARY CODE EXECUTION. The weakness is: DESERIALIZATION OF UNTRUSTED DATA. ### 🔎 What happened JPCERT/CC and IPA published the coordinated disclosure on: AUGUST 28, 2026. The vulnerability is: CVE-2026-78032. Affected versions: SOY CMS 3.24.0 AND EARLIER. JVN assigns: CVSS v3.0: 9.8 / 10 — CRITICAL and: CVSS v4.0: 9.3 / 10. The CVSS attack characteristics are particularly important: Attack Vector: NETWORK Attack Complexity: LOW Privileges Required: NONE User Interaction: NONE. ### ⚔️ Attack chain Remote attacker ↓ Reach vulnerable SOY CMS ↓ Send attacker-controlled serialized data ↓ Application deserializes untrusted input ↓ Attacker-controlled object/state reconstruction ↓ Unsafe application behavior ↓ Arbitrary code execution ↓ Code runs with web-server privileges Unlike authenticated plugin vulnerabilities, this flaw does not require the attacker to first obtain: a username password session administrator account. ### 🧩 What is deserialization? Applications often need to convert structured objects into data that can be: stored transmitted cached and later reconstructed. That transformation is: SERIALIZATION. Reconstructing the object is: DESERIALIZATION. The problem appears when an application accepts serialized data from an untrusted source and reconstructs it without sufficient controls. Attacker-crafted object ↓ application trusts structure ↓ dangerous code path triggered. Depending on the language and application architecture, insecure deserialization can become one of the most powerful server-side vulnerability classes. ### 🎯 What is affected CVE-2026-78032 affects: SOY CMS ≤ 3.24.0. JVN states successful exploitation can result in: ARBITRARY CODE EXECUTION with the privileges of: THE WEB SERVER. That distinction matters. The vulnerability does not automatically mean: root. Privileges depend on the account under which the web server/application process runs. But even web-server-level execution can potentially allow access to: website files application configuration database credentials CMS secrets uploaded content session information connected services. ### 🧠 Why this matters CMS platforms are frequently: internet exposed continuously available connected to databases permitted to modify website files. That makes server-side code execution especially dangerous. A successful compromise may potentially become: RCE ↓ web shell ↓ credential harvesting ↓ database access ↓ content modification ↓ persistence ↓ lateral movement. Those downstream actions are possibilities after server compromise — not evidence that they are currently occurring in this case. ### 📌 More vulnerabilities were disclosed Today's SOY-series disclosure also contains several: CROSS-SITE SCRIPTING vulnerabilities: CVE-2026-73827 CVE-2026-77838 CVE-2026-78238. Those affect components including: SOY Calendar and: SOY Gallery. However: CVE-2026-78032 is clearly the highest-priority vulnerability because it moves the attack from: browser-side script execution to: SERVER-SIDE ARBITRARY CODE EXECUTION. ### ⚠️ Important caveat JVN confirms the vulnerability and code-execution impact. But the advisory reviewed by CyberSignal does NOT state that: ❌ mass exploitation is underway ❌ a public weaponized exploit is circulating ❌ ransomware groups are exploiting it ❌ CISA has placed it in KEV. Therefore: CRITICAL PRE-AUTH RCE is accurate. “ACTIVE EXPLOITATION” would currently NOT be justified based on the primary advisory. Another distinction: the SOY products distributed by: Brassica, Inc. are explicitly listed by JVN as: NOT AFFECTED by these vulnerabilities. ### 🛡️ Defender action Organizations operating SOY CMS should: → identify all SOY CMS deployments → verify exact versions → upgrade immediately according to vendor guidance → remove unnecessary internet exposure → inspect HTTP/application logs → review recently modified PHP/web files → inspect unexpected processes spawned by the web server → check outbound connections → review database credentials → rotate secrets if compromise is suspected. Hunt for patterns such as: web-server process ↓ shell/interpreter ↓ external network connection. Examples may include unexpected: sh bash python perl curl wget activity originating from the CMS/web-server context. CyberSignal Insight: **Deserialization bugs are dangerous because the attacker does not merely send malicious data — they convince the application to reconstruct that data into executable behavior.** Sources: JPCERT/CC · IPA · Japan Vulnerability Notes · CVE Program
