Active in-the-wild zero-day and privilege escalation attacks targeting the Windows kernel and core OS execution layer center on several key vulnerabilities added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog: CVE-2026-68820 (Windows Kernel Ancillary Function Driver - afd.sys): A high-severity use-after-free race condition in the kernel-mode socket driver. Attackers already possessing low-privilege execution run crafted applications to trigger the condition and elevate privileges to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM without user interaction. Threat actors frequently chain afd.sys zero-days with remote code execution (RCE) vectors or browser sandbox escapes. CVE-2026-85880 (Windows Advanced Local Procedure Call - ALPC): A heap-based buffer overflow in the ALPC communication mechanism. Confirmed exploited in the wild, this flaw allows an attacker executing code inside a sandboxed, low-privilege AppContainer to escape isolation and gain SYSTEM privileges locally. CVE-2026-81963 (Windows Update Stack Link Following): An improper link resolution vulnerability exploited in targeted zero-day attacks to force the update subsystem to follow malicious symbolic links and overwrite protected system components, granting SYSTEM access. Common Attack Pattern Because these are Local Privilege Escalation (LPE) vulnerabilities, threat actors do not use them for initial access across the network. Instead, they appear as Stage 2 in exploit chains: Initial Compromise: Phishing payload, malicious document, or browser drive-by execution within a sandboxed context. Kernel Exploitation: Triggering the driver or ALPC flaw to bypass Kernel Patch Protection (PatchGuard) or Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) boundaries. Payload Delivery: Disabling EDR agents directly from kernel space (Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver/direct kernel write techniques) and dumping LSASS credentials for lateral movement. Several in‑the‑wild Windows kernel LPE zero‑days are now on CISA’s KEV: CVE‑2026‑68820 (afd.sys), CVE‑2026‑85880 (ALPC) and CVE‑2026‑81963 (update link‑follow). Attackers use these as stage‑2 after initial compromise to escape sandboxes, gain SYSTEM, disable EDR and dump creds. #WindowsSecurity #CVE202668820, #AfdSys, #ZeroDay, #KernelExploit, #PrivilegeEscalation, #EoP, #WindowsSecurity, #ThreatIntel, #OperationDreamJob, #FudModule, #Rootkit, #APT, #CyberSecurity, #InfoSec, #PatchTuesday, #CISA, #KEV, #BlueTeam, #VulnerabilityManagement #ShieldCrash

此外,SQL Server(62 項)、開發工具 Developer Tools(22 項)、SharePoint Server(16 項)、Azure(12 項)、Skype for Business(10 項)及 Exchange Server(9 項)亦釋出多項修正。

    Post summary

The post announces Microsoft’s massive Patch Tuesday fix, highlights two actively exploited zero‑day CVEs, and urges users to update while noting patch details and potential wormable RCEs.

🔥 CyberForge CVE of the Day #047 🚨 CVE-2026-85880 — Windows ALPC AppContainer Escape to SYSTEM Imagine hostile code locked inside a low-privilege Windows AppContainer. The sandbox restricts its token and the resources it can reach. Then the process reaches Windows ALPC, triggers a memory flaw and walks out carrying SYSTEM privileges. No second click. No approval prompt. No further user interaction. Microsoft says attackers are already exploiting it. CVE-2026-85880 is a heap-based buffer overflow and use-of-uninitialised-resource vulnerability in Windows Advanced Local Procedure Call, Windows' fast local messaging facility. An attacker must first be able to execute code inside a low-privilege AppContainer on an affected host. Successful exploitation then escapes that restricted environment and elevates to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. This is not remote unauthenticated RCE. It is a bridge between constrained code execution and control of the Windows machine. Microsoft rates the vulnerability Important. Its CVSS v3.1 score is 7.8 High. Microsoft released fixes on 8 September 2026 and marked the issue `Exploited: Yes`, `Publicly Disclosed: No` and `Exploitation Detected`. CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalogue on the same day. The federal remediation deadline is 22 September—but an actively exploited SYSTEM-level escape deserves a considerably shorter enterprise clock. ⚠️ CVE-2026-85880 is a patch, reboot, verify and hunt event. The 7.8 score describes its local prerequisite; it does not describe the urgency of an exploit already operating in the wild. 🔑 Key details ⭐ Severity: High / Microsoft Important 📊 CVSS v3.1: 7.8 🧮 Vector: `CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C` 🧠 Weakness: CWE-122 — Heap-based Buffer Overflow; CWE-908 — Use of Uninitialized Resource 🎯 Targets: Listed Windows 10 and Windows Server branches 🧩 Vulnerable boundary: Low-privilege AppContainer code reaching trusted Windows ALPC memory handling 🌐 Attack vector: Local ⚙️ Attack complexity: Low 🔓 Privileges required: Low—code execution inside an AppContainer is required first 👆 User interaction: None after the starting foothold exists 🔀 Scope: Unchanged under Microsoft's CVSS assessment ⚔️ Confirmed impact: AppContainer sandbox escape and elevation of privilege 💥 CVSS impact: High confidentiality, integrity and availability impact 👤 Execution context: SYSTEM after successful exploitation 🛡️ Fix: September 2026 Windows security updates; restart required 🔑 Additional remediation: Hunt the exposure window; rotate credentials and rebuild only where compromise evidence or uncertainty warrants it 🚨 Active exploitation: Confirmed by Microsoft and CISA 🧪 Reproduction: No trustworthy public reproduction or PoC located at review time 📋 CISA KEV: Listed 8 September 2026; remediation due 22 September 2026 📉 EPSS: No score available when checked 9 September 2026 🗓️ Earliest confirmed attacks: Not publicly disclosed 🩹 Vendor patches: Released 8 September 2026 📜 Vendor bulletin: Microsoft Security Response Center CVE-2026-85880 🏷️ Researcher credit: Mark Kelly, David Galazin and Jeremy Hedges of Proofpoint; Volexity 🔬 Campaign research: None publicly released for this exact CVE at the review cutoff 🧬 What actually went wrong? Windows applications and services need a fast, structured way to communicate locally. ALPC provides that internal message-passing mechanism. Some participants are privileged; others are deliberately constrained inside AppContainer. The trusted side must handle every message and resource safely, even when the caller is hostile. Microsoft assigns two weakness classes to CVE-2026-85880: 🔹 CWE-122 — Heap-based Buffer Overflow: data exceeds a heap allocation and may corrupt neighbouring memory or state. 🔹 CWE-908 — Use of Uninitialized Resource: code accesses a resource before its expected state exists. Microsoft has not published enough detail to say whether these occur sequentially, expose alternative paths or describe two aspects of the same root cause. The defensible technical model is therefore deliberately high-level: 1️⃣ Constrained execution The attacker controls code inside a low-privilege AppContainer that should limit what it can read, alter and launch. 2️⃣ Unsafe ALPC processing Attacker-controlled local interaction reaches an affected ALPC path where heap bounds and/or resource state are handled incorrectly. The advisory does not identify the port, operation, message layout, service, function or corrupted object. 3️⃣ Memory corruption and elevation The attacker converts the unsafe memory state into a privilege-escalation primitive, crosses the AppContainer boundary and obtains SYSTEM privileges. Microsoft confirms the starting context and final result; the private machinery between them remains unknown. No exploit payload, malformed ALPC message, heap-grooming sequence or reproduction recipe is included here. 🧱 “Local attack vector” does not mean “low priority” Local describes where the vulnerable component is reached. It does not mean an attacker must be physically sitting at the keyboard. The foothold could arrive through another exploit, malicious application, compromised account or abused remote session. Microsoft has not identified the observed first stage, so none is a confirmed campaign route. What CVE-2026-85880 does not provide by itself: ❌ An unauthenticated internet entry point ❌ Initial code execution on a clean host ❌ A wormable network path ❌ Compromise merely because a system is online It provides the escape hatch after constrained code execution exists: the first stage enters the building; the second obtains the master keys. ⚔️ The practical attack chain 1️⃣ An attacker obtains initial code execution on an affected Windows host through a separate, currently undisclosed route. 2️⃣ That code runs inside a low-privilege AppContainer rather than with broad access to the machine. 3️⃣ The attacker reaches the vulnerable local ALPC processing path. 4️⃣ A crafted local interaction triggers unsafe heap and/or uninitialised-resource handling. 5️⃣ Memory outside the intended allocation or expected resource state becomes attacker-influenced. 6️⃣ The attacker turns the condition into a privilege-escalation primitive. 7️⃣ The AppContainer security boundary fails. 8️⃣ Attacker-controlled execution gains SYSTEM authority. 9️⃣ The operator may attempt credential access, defence evasion, discovery or persistence. 🔟 SYSTEM access may support lateral movement or broader compromise where identities, network access and host role permit it. Steps two through eight reflect Microsoft's published starting condition, weakness classes and confirmed outcome at a safe level. The exact first stage is unknown. Steps nine and ten are reasonable post-exploitation possibilities—not activity publicly attributed to this campaign. 👤 “Privileges required: Low” does not mean an ordinary internet visitor can become SYSTEM The CVSS `PR:L` value describes the privileges needed at the vulnerable local interface. Microsoft is more specific: the attacker must be able to execute code inside a low-privilege AppContainer. That is already a foothold, but one Windows intends to contain. Successful exploitation reaches SYSTEM, which may allow an operator to: 🔹 Read protected data, processes and local credentials 🔹 Change services, scheduled tasks and autoruns 🔹 Interfere with security controls and logging 🔹 Access service secrets and create privileged persistence 🔹 Reach neighbouring systems using available identities Blast radius depends upon host role, active sessions, credential protection, segmentation and identity tier. SYSTEM does not automatically mean Domain Admin, ransomware or data theft; responders must establish what the operator touched. 📦 Affected products and versions Microsoft's current CVE record lists a narrower set than “all Windows”. 🔴 Windows 10 🔹 Version 1607, 32-bit and x64 — earlier than `10.0.14393.9512` — fix: KB5123099 🔹 Version 1809, 32-bit and x64 — earlier than `10.0.17763.9245` — fix: KB5122876 🔹 Version 21H2, 32-bit, ARM64 and x64 — earlier than `10.0.19044.7725` — fix: KB5122878 🔹 Version 22H2, 32-bit, ARM64 and x64 — earlier than `10.0.19045.7725` — fix: KB5122878 🔴 Windows Server 🔹 Server 2012, including Server Core — earlier than `6.2.9200.26349` — fix: KB5123065 monthly rollup 🔹 Server 2012 R2, including Server Core — earlier than `6.3.9600.23397` — fix: KB5123066 monthly rollup 🔹 Server 2016, including Server Core — earlier than `10.0.14393.9512` — fix: KB5123099 🔹 Server 2019, including Server Core — earlier than `10.0.17763.9245` — fix: KB5122876 🔹 Server 2022, including Server Core — earlier than `10.0.20348.5622` — fix: KB5122882 Every listed update requires a restart. Windows 11 and Server 2025 are not named in the current matrix. Do not invent the reason or infer universal immunity; validate the live Microsoft record. Older branches may require eligible extended servicing. Inventory endpoints, servers, VMs, VDI pools, DR systems, offline machines and golden images. One forgotten template can reintroduce the build. 🕰️ The known zero-day timeline 🔴 4 September 2026: The CVE identifier is reserved. 🔴 Before 8 September: Exploitation occurs before Microsoft releases the fix; the earliest attack date is not public. 🟢 8 September, 07:00 UTC: Microsoft's September security-update record is initially released. 🟢 8 September: Microsoft publishes CVE-2026-85880 and the applicable Windows security updates. 🔴 8 September: CISA adds the vulnerability to KEV and records exploitation as active. 🔵 9 September: The CVE record is updated with CISA ADP enrichment; CyberForge research cutoff. 🟠 22 September: CISA's remediation deadline for covered federal agencies. The operational conclusion is simple: > The patch arrived after attackers already possessed a working private chain, but public sources do not reveal how early that chain began or which systems it targeted. Being unpatched is not proof of compromise. It is reason to close the exposure quickly and preserve enough telemetry to investigate suspicious privilege transitions. 🦠 What attackers did after reaching SYSTEM That information is not publicly confirmed. Microsoft and CISA establish active exploitation and total impact, but neither publishes the payload, malware, persistence, C2, victim count or objective. Proofpoint researchers and Volexity receive acknowledgement, but no public campaign report was located. Credit is not actor attribution or proof both saw the same incident. Defenders should hunt the consequences available to a SYSTEM-level operator without claiming those consequences occurred everywhere: 🔸 Security-tool modification 🔸 Credential access 🔸 New services or scheduled tasks 🔸 Privileged process creation 🔸 Account and local-group changes 🔸 Remote-service use 🔸 Unusual outbound connections 🔸 Log clearance or telemetry gaps 🔎 No public campaign IOCs—what that changes No authoritative source had tied public IPs, domains, filenames, hashes or malware artefacts to this CVE. There is no honest blocklist to paste into a SIEM—but there is plenty to hunt. Prioritise: 🔍 Affected build state 🔍 AppContainer and low-integrity process ancestry 🔍 Sudden transitions to SYSTEM 🔍 Token and privileged-handle anomalies 🔍 Persistence created immediately after constrained-process activity 🔍 Credential access and security-control changes 🔍 Network activity from newly privileged processes CVE-labelled repositories may be placeholders, scanners or unsafe code—not verified PoCs. None was executed. An IOC miss cannot clear a host; private chains operate before public artefacts arrive. 👁️ Defender hunting guide 1️⃣ Establish the vulnerable window Record the exact product, full build revision, host role, patch deployment time, reboot time and successful post-reboot validation. Hunt from the earliest retained telemetry before 8 September through the verified fixed state. Extend the window when internal evidence warrants it; Microsoft's first observed exploitation date is not public. 2️⃣ Identify AppContainer origins Use EDR fields for AppContainer SID, package identity, token integrity, capabilities and parent process where available. Establish a baseline of legitimate broker activity, then find constrained processes followed by attacker-controlled binaries, shells, script hosts, DLL loaders or unsigned executables. 3️⃣ Hunt the privilege transition Correlate low-integrity/AppContainer activity with: 🔍 New SYSTEM processes, token duplication or privileged handle access 🔍 Child or sibling processes inconsistent with the application's broker model 🔍 SYSTEM execution without an approved service, installer or administrative workflow 🔍 Exploit-prevention, memory-protection or EDR tamper alerts A privilege difference alone is not malicious: Windows brokers legitimately perform privileged work. Validate signer, path, command line, token, lineage and session context. 4️⃣ Correlate Windows and EDR telemetry Useful sources can include: 🔹 Security Event IDs 4688 and 4672 — process creation and special privileges 🔹 Security/System Event IDs 4697, 4698 and 7045 — new services or scheduled tasks 🔹 Sysmon Event IDs 1, 7, 10, 11, 12/13 and 22 — process, image, access, file, registry and DNS context 🔹 EDR token, process-access, exploit-prevention and memory telemetry None is a CVE-2026-85880 signature. Correlation provides the evidence. 5️⃣ Hunt SYSTEM-level follow-on activity Review: 🔍 New services, drivers, scheduled tasks and autoruns 🔍 Defender exclusions, disabled tools or altered logging 🔍 Suspicious LSASS, SAM, SECURITY or credential-store access 🔍 New administrators and privileged-group changes 🔍 WMI, WinRM, RDP, SMB and remote-service activity 🔍 Executables launched as SYSTEM from user-writable paths 🔍 Unexpected egress immediately after the privilege transition 6️⃣ Review identity and lateral movement Identify users, service accounts, tokens and secrets available during the suspected window. Correlate new logons, remote access and credential use across neighbouring systems. 7️⃣ Use crashes carefully Review Windows Error Reporting, failures, restarts and bugchecks near suspicious constrained-process activity. Failed exploitation may crash; successful exploitation may not. No crash does not clear the host. Preserve complete process trees, token metadata, memory artefacts, hashes, connections and event timelines before remediation destroys volatile evidence. 🩹 Emergency remediation order 1️⃣ Preserve evidence where operationally safe Capture processes, token/EDR metadata, connections, persistence, logs and security-control changes—but do not delay urgent containment to collect perfect evidence. 2️⃣ Apply the applicable Microsoft security update Use the matching KB from the affected-version matrix above, or a confirmed superseding cumulative update where Microsoft lists one. 3️⃣ Restart and verify the running build Microsoft marks the listed remediations as restart-required. Administrators can inspect the current build and Update Build Revision without changing the host: ```powershell Get-ItemProperty 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion' | Select-Object ProductName, DisplayVersion, CurrentBuild, UBR ``` Read the build as `CurrentBuild.UBR` and compare it with the correct threshold. A deployment console's “success” message does not prove the host rebooted into fixed code. 4️⃣ Update every source image Patch golden images, VDI/VM templates, offline systems, recovery images and autoscaling sources. Test recovery so an old image cannot undo the work. 5️⃣ Hunt the vulnerable window Review constrained-process activity and SYSTEM-level consequences from the retained pre-patch period through verified remediation. 6️⃣ Rotate credentials when exposure evidence warrants it Microsoft does not mandate universal credential rotation for this CVE. If SYSTEM compromise is confirmed or unbounded, identify exposed credentials, tokens and sessions; revoke or rotate them at their authoritative source. 7️⃣ Rebuild where necessary Patching fixes ALPC. It does not remove persistence, reverse attacker-made changes or prove a previously compromised host is clean. Where SYSTEM compromise is confirmed or unbounded, rebuild from a trusted patched image and scope neighbouring systems. 🧱 Temporary exposure reduction The permanent fix exists. Compensating controls should support emergency deployment—not replace it. ✅ Restrict interactive and remote logon to unpatched high-value hosts ✅ Remove unnecessary software-execution paths and local installation rights ✅ Enforce tested WDAC/AppLocker and attack-surface-reduction controls ✅ Patch browsers, document processors and other likely first-stage surfaces ✅ Verify EDR health, exploit protection and tamper protection ✅ Reduce standing privileged sessions on everyday endpoints ✅ Restrict egress and management reach from vulnerable servers ✅ Isolate systems that cannot be updated and accelerate migration from unsupported branches A firewall rule cannot repair a local ALPC memory flaw. Network controls can reduce initial access and follow-on movement, but the Windows update is the remedy. 🚑 When vulnerability management becomes incident response Escalate when: 🔴 A low-privilege AppContainer or constrained process is followed by unexplained SYSTEM execution 🔴 Affected unpatched hosts show exploit-prevention or memory-corruption alerts 🔴 New persistence or unexpected security-control changes appear during the vulnerable window 🔴 Suspicious credential access follows constrained-process activity 🔴 New privileged accounts or group memberships appear 🔴 Unexplained remote-service, lateral-movement or egress activity follows elevation 🔴 Crashes and privilege anomalies cluster in the same session 🔴 Log gaps prevent responders from bounding a suspected SYSTEM compromise Isolate the host, preserve volatile evidence, identify the first-stage foothold, review exposed identities and scope connected systems. Do not claim ransomware, data theft, Domain Admin access, persistence or universal compromise solely because a machine was vulnerable. Establish what executed, what authority it gained and what it accessed. 📊 CISA KEV and EPSS context At review time on 9 September 2026: 🔹 CISA KEV added it on 8 September, with federal remediation due 22 September 2026 🔹 Known ransomware-campaign use: Unknown 🔹 CISA SSVC: exploitation `active`; automatable `no`; technical impact `total` 🔹 FIRST had not yet published an EPSS probability No EPSS value means the new record had not yet received a model score. It does not mean 0% exploitation probability. EPSS is also secondary to direct evidence here. Microsoft has detected exploitation and CISA has accepted the flaw into KEV. No predictive number is needed to justify urgent action. `Automatable: No` does not mean “difficult to exploit”. CISA's SSVC automation decision asks whether the broader kill chain can be reliably automated; this CVE still requires a prior local foothold. 🧾 Evidence separation Confirmed by Microsoft: 🔹 Windows ALPC contains a heap-based buffer overflow and use-of-uninitialised-resource weakness 🔹 The attacker starts with code execution inside a low-privilege AppContainer 🔹 Exploitation is local, Low complexity and requires no further user interaction 🔹 Successful exploitation can escape the sandbox and gain SYSTEM privileges 🔹 Exploitation has been detected 🔹 The issue was not publicly disclosed at release 🔹 Exact affected products, fixed builds and restart-required updates are available Confirmed by CISA: 🔹 The vulnerability entered KEV on 8 September 🔹 Exploitation is active 🔹 Technical impact is total 🔹 Federal remediation is due 22 September 🔹 Known ransomware use is Unknown Researcher acknowledgement: Microsoft credits Mark Kelly, David Galazin and Jeremy Hedges of Proofpoint, together with Volexity. No public technical or campaign report from those organisations was located for this exact CVE at the review cutoff. CyberForge interpretation: This is a second-stage exploit-chain accelerator. Its local prerequisite lowers the score, while active exploitation, Low complexity, no additional user interaction and SYSTEM impact raise operational priority. Not established: ❌ The initial-access route ❌ The vulnerable ALPC operation or message format ❌ The targeted process or service ❌ The exact memory-corruption primitive ❌ The threat actor, victims or campaign objective ❌ Payloads, persistence or command-and-control ❌ Ransomware use ❌ A trustworthy public PoC ❌ Why Windows 11 is absent from the current affected list 🔥 CyberForge verdict CVE-2026-85880 is an actively exploited AppContainer escape that converts constrained local code execution into SYSTEM control of an affected Windows host. It is High severity under CVSS v3.1 and Important under Microsoft. It requires a pre-existing low-privilege AppContainer execution context, but complexity is Low and no additional user interaction is required. It is not an unauthenticated internet entry point or wormable network RCE. No reliable public reproduction or PoC was located at the review cutoff. Microsoft confirms exploitation and CISA KEV reinforces the urgency, but the public record does not reveal post-elevation activity. Exploitation preceded the 8 September patch; its earliest date remains unknown. The permanent repair is available, but patch deployment alone cannot prove a host remained clean while vulnerable. The correct order is: 1️⃣ Preserve evidence where compromise is plausible. 2️⃣ Apply the correct Windows update. 3️⃣ Restart and verify the fixed build. 4️⃣ Patch every image and recovery source. 5️⃣ Hunt AppContainer-to-SYSTEM transitions and privileged follow-on behaviour. 6️⃣ Revoke or rotate exposed credentials when SYSTEM compromise is confirmed or unbounded. 7️⃣ Rebuild compromised hosts from trusted patched sources. 8️⃣ Monitor connected systems for follow-on identity or remote-service abuse. The one-sentence CyberForge verdict: > CVE-2026-85880 still needs a foot inside the AppContainer—but once there, it turns a sandboxed foothold into the keys to the Windows host, and somebody is already using it. 🔗 Microsoft Security Response Center advisory: https://msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide/en-US/vulnerability/CVE-2026-85880 🔗 Microsoft September 2026 security-update data: https://api.msrc.microsoft.com/cvrf/v3.0/cvrf/2026-Sep 🔗 CISA KEV entry: https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog?search_api_fulltext=CVE-2026-85880 🔗 CVE record: https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-85880 🔗 NVD vulnerability record: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-85880 🔗 Tenable September Patch Tuesday analysis: https://www.tenable.com/blog/microsofts-september-2026-patch-tuesday-addresses-964-cves-cve-2026-81963-cve-2026-85880 #CyberSecurity #CVE #Microsoft #Windows #WindowsSecurity #ALPC #AppContainer #SandboxEscape #PrivilegeEscalation #ZeroDay #CISAKEV #ThreatHunting #IncidentResponse #BlueTeam #SecOps #PatchNow #CyberForge

    CVE-2026-81963(Update Stack権限昇格)とCVE-2026-85880(ALPC権限昇格)が、CVSS 7.8の「Important」なのに悪用確認済みでCISA KEV入り。DNSのCVE-2026-69730はCVSS 9.8 Criticalで「Exploitation More Likely」止まりらしい。
