🚨 CRITICAL RCE — NUMAIL HIT BY 9.8 CVSS COMMAND-INJECTION FLAW REQUIRING NO AUTHENTICATION CVE-2026-82082 allows a remote attacker to inject arbitrary operating-system commands and execute them directly on the NUMail server. CyberSignal Priority: 🔴 VERY HIGH CVE-2026-82082 · CVSS 9.8 📅 August 28, 2026 🏷️ Cybersecurity · RCE · Command Injection · Email Infrastructure 🛠️ Product: Green-Computing NUMail TWCERT/CC has disclosed a critical vulnerability affecting NUMail that sits close to the worst end of the vulnerability spectrum: NETWORK ACCESS. NO AUTHENTICATION. NO USER INTERACTION. ARBITRARY OS COMMAND EXECUTION. ### 🔎 What happened According to Taiwan's TWCERT/CC, NUMail contains an: OS Command Injection vulnerability. An unauthenticated remote attacker can provide malicious input that reaches an operating-system command context without being safely neutralized. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to execute: ARBITRARY OS COMMANDS on the vulnerable server. The vulnerability received: CVSS 3.1: 9.8 / 10 — CRITICAL with the vector: AV:N / AC:L / PR:N / UI:N / S:U / C:H / I:H / A:H Translated: 🌐 Network exploitable ↓ ⚡ Low attack complexity ↓ 🔓 No privileges required ↓ 👤 No victim interaction required ↓ 💥 High confidentiality impact ↓ 💥 High integrity impact ↓ 💥 High availability impact ### ⚔️ Attack chain Remote attacker ↓ Reach vulnerable NUMail service ↓ Send attacker-controlled input ↓ Improper OS-command sanitization ↓ Command injection ↓ Arbitrary operating-system command execution ↓ Potential full server compromise No stolen account is required according to the CVSS and vendor-coordinated advisory. No phishing click is required. No local access is required. That combination is precisely why the vulnerability receives a 9.8 score. ### 🎯 What is affected TWCERT/CC lists: NUMail — ALL VERSIONS as affected by the vulnerability. The vendor has produced a security fix. Administrators are instructed to update using the vendor patch to: 202602162 or the corresponding corrected release provided by Green-Computing. ### 🧠 Why this matters Command injection is fundamentally different from a bug that merely crashes an application. Once attacker-controlled text crosses the application boundary and becomes an operating-system command, the attacker may potentially gain access to everything the vulnerable service account can reach. Depending on how NUMail is deployed, successful server compromise could expose: configuration ↓ stored credentials ↓ mail-related data ↓ internal network connectivity ↓ additional infrastructure reachable from the host. The exact post-exploitation possibilities depend on the server's configuration and privileges. But the core vulnerability already provides what an attacker wants most: CODE EXECUTION. ### ⚠️ Important caveat TWCERT/CC confirms the vulnerability and its technical impact. However: there is currently no evidence in the sources reviewed that CVE-2026-82082 is being actively exploited in the wild. It is also not currently listed in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. That means: CRITICAL ≠ ACTIVELY EXPLOITED. CyberSignal will keep those two facts separate. The advisory also does not disclose a detailed public exploit chain showing exactly which NUMail request parameter reaches the operating-system command. ### 🛡️ Defender action NUMail administrators should: → apply the vendor patch immediately → verify systems are updated to the corrected release → restrict unnecessary internet exposure → inspect web/application logs for unusual parameters → review processes spawned by the NUMail service → hunt for unexpected shell execution → inspect recently created files → review outbound connections from the mail server → rotate credentials if compromise is suspected. Particularly investigate unexpected execution of: sh bash cmd powershell curl wget python or other interpreters/download utilities originating from the NUMail process. CyberSignal Insight: **A 9.8 vulnerability does not need a sophisticated exploit chain when the vulnerable application itself can be turned into the attacker's command shell.** Sources: TWCERT/CC · CVE-2026-82082 · NVD ecosystem

    Post summary

A critical OS command injection vulnerability (CVE-2026-82082) affecting all NUMail versions has been disclosed, with a vendor patch available; no evidence of active exploitation has been reported.
