🚨 #ALERT — CRITICAL OTRS AUTHENTICATION BYPASS ENABLES REMOTE USER IMPERSONATION
October 12, 2026
DISCLOSED BY: OTRS Security Response Team
PRODUCT: ((OTRS)) Community Edition
CVE: CVE-2026-93582
SEVERITY: Critical — CVSS 9.4
AFFECTED VERSIONS:
Community Edition 6.x and earlier. Derived products may also be affected.
OTRS 7 and later are not vulnerable to this attack vector.
IMPACT:
Unauthenticated attackers can impersonate existing agents or customers by supplying a forged Remote-User HTTP header.
Vulnerable installations may trust HTTP_REMOTE_USER without verifying the account password.
Successful exploitation grants the impersonated user’s permissions, potentially exposing confidential tickets, customer information and administrative configuration.
EXPOSURE:
HTTP Basic Authentication must be configured as the authentication backend, with CGI/mod_perl infrastructure exposing attacker-controlled HTTP headers as environment variables.
EXPLOITATION STATUS:
VENDOR-CONFIRMED VULNERABILITY.
No verified public working PoC or confirmed in-the-wild exploitation.
Forensic triage:
Inspect available reverse-proxy and application logs for suspicious Remote-User headers, unexpected Generic Interface authentication, anomalous agent sessions and unauthorized ticket or configuration changes.
No confirmed malicious infrastructure IOCs.
URGENT ACTION:
Identify exposed legacy OTRS installations.
Disable the vulnerable authentication configuration, reject untrusted identity headers and restrict external access.
Migrate to a maintained, unaffected release. OTRS recommends version 2026.7.1 or later.

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/main/cves/2026/93xxx/CVE-2026-93582.json
CONFIDENCE:
HIGH — OTRS-authored CVE record confirms the vulnerability, exploitation prerequisites and affected versions.
Real-world malicious exploitation remains unverified.
